A Legacy of Aloha
Outrigger's roots trace back to the Islander Hotel opened in 1947 in Waikiki by Roy and Estelle Kelley. Considered icons of the travel industry, the Kelleys emphasized the welcoming spirit of Aloha, treating guests like family. Their simple strategy was to keep costs low and satisfaction high.
The Kelley's first Outrigger hotel debuted in Waikiki in 1967 as Hawaii began to see tourism grow rapidly with the jet age. Vibrant through four generations, the Kelley family founding spirit strengthened as Outrigger launched its condominium division in 1994. The company entered its second half-century of business as Outrigger Hotels & Resorts in 1997, by then touching far Pacific shores. Today, Outrigger represents exceptional resorts in Hawaii, Australia, Guam, Fiji, Thailand and Bali.
Outrigger's Hospitality Services also includes OHANA Hotels & Resorts, offering moderately priced accommodations in Waikiki. This extends the range of Outrigger's lodging products, providing the company with a diverse portfolio and broad foundation of management experience.
While Outrigger paces its visionary growth, the company continually looks to improve its holdings. The exciting Waikiki Beach Walk® is a $535 million redevelopment that has transformed eight acres of prime real estate in Waikiki into a premier dining, shopping and entertainment destination. Waikiki Beach Walk features lodging, speciality retail, and restaurants that celebrate Hawaii's rich cultural heritage and contemporary island lifestyle.
Outrigger's family of hotels and resorts, and the new Waikiki Beach Walk put their distinctive stamp on the Kelley's enduring legacy of Aloha.
